Well, it is a start of another week tomorrow. Last week was quite long for me. I was always tired and exhausted and had no idea why. I slept most of the night and ended up sleeping most of the day as well. I told some friends it was probably related to the weather changes.
Well, I just happened to read a post I wrote nearly a year ago. On August 20, 2008, I wrote a blog entry wondering if the season changes were causing my exhaustion. Now I think it more related to the weather changing from hot to cool within the same day (I am very acclimated in Saigon now). Normally this exhaustions lasts about a week or two. I also usually start taking my allergy medicine during this time as well but I still have not figured out the sweet soup Vietnamese eat during this time (read last year’s post).
I think many Expats will have noticed a lot of other expats being sick as well, normally with stomach ailments. I think one culprit is the lack of sugar AND salt. I try to drink an electrolyte during this time. I prefer to make my own. Here is my recipe for my orange electrolyte:
- 1.5 liter water (I buy a 1.5 liter water bottle)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda (bot no)
- 1 .5 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoon sugar (or less if you prefer)
- 6 tablespoon Tang (or favorite drink mix)
Most importantly, just try to get out of your air conditioned room for a couple hours if you can. Hopefully this will help some people.
