In an interesting twist, Thanh Nien News is putting the blame of the undersea cable theft on the Vietnamese government. Last August, the Ba Ria Vung Tau provincial government had given civilian permission to salvage unused undersea cable that had been laid prior to 1975. Fisherman were given predetermined coordinates on where they could recover the unused cable. How a fishermen could tell the difference between an unused cable and a used one was drawn into question.
The article states that in three months, subscribers could get their bandwidth back after repairs are made but the actual likelihood of this is minimal.
