Last night, Son, Vinh and I met with Dr. Son, his daughter, Amy, and Khoa. Dr. Son is the head of the Math and Computer Science Dept. near my house and Mr. Khoa currently teaches under him. I was referred to Dr. Son by a Viet Kieu to discuss reviving the Linux User Group here that Tracy and I started. We met after I taught last night at a coffeehouse located in District 10.
The meeting went fine. Dr. Son and Mr. Khoa is supporting the work of the new Saigon Linux User Group. They will offer a space for the Saigon LUG to hold their meetings.
At 9:30 PM we left. Unfortunately for me, I got on my motorbike too late. I followed Vinh unto the road and then went on my own. I turned right at the next intersection thinking that it will lead me to District 5. After about 5 minutes, I realized that I may be going in the wrong direction. I turned around and headed back to the main street where I started from. I then went further down this street and took a right on Nguyen Tri Phuong. I knew this street and I became relieved. I kept riding for about another 5 minutes when all of a sudden I came to a dead end. Whoops. That was when I realized that I had oriented myself with Saigon wrong. Instead of heading east on Nguyen Tri Phuong, I was heading west towards the airport. Some people helped me get myself oriented again.
I headed WEST on Nguyen Tri Phuong. After about 5 minutes, I began to recognize the area. When I saw a familiar roundabout, I was relieved. From there I headed home. I came home at around 10 PM. What should have been a 5 minute trip took me about 30 minutes. Next time I will follow one of my friends. They all actually headed in the opposite direction of me when they left. I just did not notice.
