Saigon Thai Express

Monday, February 23, 2009 By kevmille

I heard about Thai Express on Le Thanh Ton street in District 1 for some time.  I happened to pass it last weekend.  I think I will give it a try sometime in the near future.

Anyone else tried the Thai food at Thai Express yet?

I haven’t tried it but we might, I did find the address is 8A LTT.

Have you tried “PHO NGHEU HUONG THANH” at 176 LTT? They specialize in clam(ngheu) pho and I have become an addict of the spicy style although it actually isn’t very spicy, which is best for me. They are having a breakfast special this week, only VND20K/bowl in the morning.

Two of our favorite restaurants have closed in the last few weeks, so sad! It’s a tough racket in good times and these aren’t very good times for too many.

@Clifton Buck-Kauffman : i remember when it first opened last year, the price was 32k vnd. And there’s a fact in VN that the price in 99% of the stores will never go down, but just go up…

On the other side of the road there’s a new small restaurant named “Cà ri dê ?n ??”, which serves Indian goat curry and have heavy customers traffic ! Try it!

For whom do not know what LTT (in Kauffman’s comment) means, it’s Lý Thái T? in District 10

I am sorry if my abbreviation of Le Thanh Ton in District 1 as LTT causes any confusion. I was following up on the original post by Kevin about the Thai Express restaurant and he didn’t post the exact address with the street address number, which I did.

The place is absolutely horrible. Their tom yum goong is spiced with powder and their phad grow pow was awful. The chef is not Thai and /or the viet chef does not know about Thai food

I was quite surprised to find out this morning, while enjoying my clam pho, that there are two Pho Ngheu Huong Thanh locations. Coincidently they are both located on streets with the same initials, LTT. The one I have been going to is at 276 Le Thanh Ton. The other restaurant, that I wasn’t previously aware of, is located in Ward 10 in District 10 at 506-508 Ly Thai To. I was confused because I hadn’t seen a Indian Goat Curry selling eatery across from where I had been before.

That Thai place is not a good place to eat. I would spend my money else where. The food is not very authentic.

Dear All — Thanks for your postive comments about Pho Ngheu. I will try to my best to maintain quality of the food and hope I can come out with my some new clam dishes soon.
