2008 could be the Year of Linux and Open Source Technology adoption in Vietnam. As the story points out, more and more government agencies and companies are beginning to replace more costly Window’s software with more affordable, higher quality open source equivalents.

As Vietnam is tightening control of illegal software, local administrations and enterprises are seeking cheap alternatives and open source software has become the top choice.
ACB, Saccombank, VietnamWorks and VinaGames are already using open source software in their companies. The Saigon Linux Group and ViPLUG expect many more small to medium sized enterprises to adopt open source technology as well due to the high cost of Window’s licenses.
