Met with my student, Chi Mai, yesterday at Gloria Jean’s Coffee in District 1. I consider Gloria Jean’s Coffee one of the most expensive in Saigon but with the good internet connection and delicious pastries, why not? (^_^) I can see why it is one of the most popular coffee shops around the World.
My only complaint deals with the shoe shiners, magazine sellers, etc., who constantly bang on the window to get your attention. They also congregate in front of the entrance of Gloria Jeans but the security seem to not be bothered by them. Highland’s Coffee and Trung Nguyen Coffee would not put up with this, you also do not see this with Gloria Jean’s Coffee in Hanoi. In the backpacker area, okay, but on Dong Khoi street with the classy Gucci store and Mojo Cafe nearby, you would expect to be hassle free, wouldn’t you???
(My seat at Gloria Jean’s Coffee)
(Clear view from my seat)
(First shoe shiner who ‘tapped’ the window)
(He was very persistent in getting my attention)
Gloria Jean’s Coffee really came in SaiGon or it is just the name of the cafe shop???. I used to hear about the Gloria Jean’s Coffee, but i never try it.
I personally think the coffee sucks, having lived in Seattle for a few years I am a coffee snob and a Starbucks minion (although I love Cafe Sua Da). Also the internet is slow there. I said it before and i will say it again, the Manor and it’s cable modems just kick ass.
Although, Gloria Jeans does have a great location.
Going off on a tangent here, but I would love to open up my own wifi cafe and have some serious bandwidth by tapping into a fiber optic fat pipe. But I think the cost would be prohibitive for now. At least, one can still dream.
