A couple days ago, I attended my American friend’s father-in-law’s death anniversary at his house in Ben Thanh District. A death anniversary is normally all day long. Family and close friends who up during different parts of the day. Normally for the men, it will involve heavy drinking. They may stay all day drinking. The meal includes 2-3 courses which includes a hot pot.
Despite the name, death anniversaries are a great way to meet people and can be quite interesting.

I’ve been following your blog for awhile now, and this has nothing to do with this post but I’m just wondering if you ride a motorbike in Vietnam? or how do you get around?

Of course I ride a motorbike, the only way to get around Saigon until there is a much better mass transit system.
When I was in Vietnam I wanted to so much ride the motorbike but traffic there is just too scary. Maybe I’ll try it when I go to Vietnam next time. Do you need a license?
Legally yes but right now most foreigners and many Vietnamese do not have one. It costs more money to get the paperwork done (from the US side) then to pay a fine. If you do not break the law, you are fine. If you plan to stay longer, then get a motorcycle endorsement in the US. It can be transferred in Vietnam.

You should re-post that video you took where you had the camera on the front of the motorbike and you had it play in double time as you went through traffic. I think you had it on YouTube or something?
