Over a week ago I was heading home in District 5 when I ran into a parade procession. A bunch of floats at least 2 miles long where heading towards Cholon. I got caught right in the middle of it, had no idea what was going on. A traffic policeman was directing me to move forward when a float ran right into me. Luckily a security guard grabbed the rear of my bike and I was able to clear free of the float. I ended up heading towards Huong Vuong street where I was able to get in front of the procession before heading back to District 1.
I learned later that the following weekend was Buddha’s Birthday. Odd, this was the first time in 8 years I ever knew they had parades like this in Cholon.
