Migrating from Wordpress to Wagtail

Thanks to PHP2Shell, Migrating to Wagtail

For nearly 20 years, SaigonNezumi ran on WordPress, a PHP framework. For the first 5 years, I hosted it with a web hosting provider. After many throttling issues, I jumped into server administration and ran my blog on CentOS at Linode, with brief stints on Ubuntu Linux at DigitalOcean before returning to Linode on Rocky Linux.

With last week's two critical remote code execution bugs now known as PHP2Shell, I felt it was time to finally migrate away from PHP. I decided to go with Wagtail, an open source content management system built on Django and the Python programming language.

Thanks to AI tools, a migration project like this would normally take me one to two weeks. I can do it now in 2-3 days; in fact, I fully migrated the site in one day. To put this in perspective, one day for me means 4-6 hours since I do all my coding work after work. So, relatively fast.

I will update my AI usage in the migration in a later post to give you a full picture on the entire workflow process.

Goodbye WordPress. Hello Wagtail.
