Fight for the Tallest Building in the Alleyway (Saigon)

Monday, July 9, 2007 By kevmille

As you all are aware, there has been a lot of construction going around my house for the past year. If you ever noticed the houses standing next to each other, you will realize that one of them is just a tad taller than the other. I watched my two neighbors build their houses nearly at the same time. The one that started a week later ended up with the taller house. There seems to be a fight in my alleyway on who will have the tallest house. So far, I still have the tallest house thanks to the water tank on my roof. I win, for now 🙂

(My neighbor’s started construction roughly one week apart – House on the left got the taller house)

(Two neighbor houses located next to each other – Foreground house tall by just a tad)

(My neighbor may just build a taller house than where I live)

One peculiar thing about these tall houses, nobody hardly ever goes on top. I only go to my terrace because my dog and cat are out there part of the day. It is just a long ways up. I technically live in a 11 floor house (though I tell everyone it is 5 floors). That is the narrow, tall house situation here in Vietnam…
