Barcamp Central Asia 2009

Sunday, November 30, 2008 By kevmille

The first Barcamp Central Asia was held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.  I have a reporter friend back in Bishkek who attended this Barcamp.  It was a success, roughly 300 people attended.  They are now planning a second Barcamp Central Asia to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, next April, 2009.  I am considering attending this Barcamp though it would mean reviewing my Kazakh and Russian.  It seems that the entire event was in Russian, the lingua franca of the region.

I attended the BarCamp in Bishkek, and I also thought it was very well run and a good event. It was in Russian (and a bit in English with people translating for those like me who didn’t speak Russian). It had a pretty good attendance not only from Central Asia, but from a number of other countries.

So I am hoping to go to Almaty…

@chaals: It was very well reported too. I found out about it from a reporter in Bishkek. It would have been nice to attend it. Are the Barcampers in Central Asia very well networked with each other?

I missed the Barcamp this year. Hopefully I can attend one in the next year or two. It would be nice if the SEA countries can do the same.

@urimtal: I never had a chance to attend. I am lazy about traveling.
