Three months social distancing in Saigon

Expat Life Aug 7, 2021

Today is three month's since a version of the social distancing has started here in Saigon. The city is also going on the 5th week of the strict lockdown. Just by listening I can tell that people are again not adhering to the social distancing in the city. I started to hear a lot of motorbike horns again from my room. A bit of a distressing sound.

Number of new cases dropped again this morning

1836 new cases in HCMC this morning (August 7, 2021).

This morning recorded 1836 new cases for Saigon. That is down about 700 cases from yesterday morning. In about one hour the new figures will be update. Everyone is hoping it will drop below the symbolic 3000 number. After it hit 3300 on August 4th, people in Saigon were happy but then it went back up the next couple of days.

Based on the previous days numbers, I predict the total number of new cases in Saigon will range from 2800-3300. Everyone is waiting for the numbers to drop. I hope by next weekend HCMC can revert to a less stricter Directive 15. Yes, gyms will still be closed at least they know where the clusters are now.

Edit: I was wrong. Cases ended at 3930 for HCMC on Saturday. Just a small drop from the previous day. I think this will be a long lockdown.

I have not got a confirmation yet but I did register. The local ward knows about me too. I suspect it will come next week. I am hoping.

I will update this post later if the numbers do go down.
