What Japanese Think of Half-Japanese People? (Interview)

Hafu Mixed Japanese Interview

As some of you may know through my blog’s name, SaigonNezumi, I must have some roots in Japan. Nezumi is rat/mouse in the Japanese language (I was born in the Year of the Rat). Oddly enough, I never really focused or even considered living in Japan. With the amounts of Japanese Drama that I watch and mostly eating Japanese food, you would think I would have made a move there by now.  Unfortunately, I have not.

Being mixed Japanese was something I never thought was welcome in Japan. I had a bad experience entering Fukuoka back in 2015 that gets stuck in my mind. Leaving was a problem too. Was I being targeted for being mixed Japanese? Probably not since I do have Japanese friends.

Watching this interview today made me open my eyes a bit. I never really asked my Japanese friends what they thought about mixed Japanese. I will definitely explore this topic in the future.
